Inks-in-progress for the dance scene from SMILE.
Some people ink their pages in a disciplined, left-to-right order. I jump all over the place, generally starting with the thick, chunky lines in all of the panels first and getting to the delicate, fine brushwork last.
Since this was a spread, I used a 19x24” piece of Bristol board, leftover from a giant pad I bought in college. I still had to widen the image out digitally, as too much stuff was falling into the eventual gutter of the book.
Fun fact: every single person in the background is a real friend from high school who didn’t make it into the story!
